President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for another five-year term.

The renewal, effective Friday, February 27, 2026, follows the expiration of his first tenure.

Dr Audi was initially appointed to lead the NSCDC in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

His first five-year term concluded last week, coinciding with the 2026 World Civil Defence Day celebrations at the Corps’ National Headquarters in Abuja.

He is set to resume duties on Monday with a renewed mandate to reposition the Corps for a more strategic role in strengthening national security, particularly as the Nigeria Police Force focuses on tackling banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.

Born on September 30, 1967, in Laminga Town, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Audi started his education in the state before attending Teachers’ College, Jengre, Plateau State, where he earned a Teachers’ Grade II Certificate in 1987.

He subsequently obtained a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) from the College of Education, Akwanga, in 1992, followed by a bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education from Ahmadu Bello University in 1995.

His academic journey continued with a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from University of Calabar in 2001, a PhD in Public Administration from Nasarawa State University in 2014, and a Master’s in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from Ahmadu Bello University in 2019.

Audi joined the NSCDC as a volunteer in November 1996, completing his basic officer training in 1997 before being deployed as a Divisional Officer in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

Over the years, he rose through several state commands, earning promotion to Commandant of the Corps in 2007 and serving in the office of the Commandant-General at the National Headquarters in Abuja.
