The Iho community in Imo State’s Ikeduru Local Government Area is in mourning after a truck crashed into a building on Monday, killing a mother of three, Mrs. Chioma Ogu.

Her husband, Mr. Ogu, remains critically ill in an undisclosed hospital following the accident.

According to sources, the truck, which was conveying chippings, lost control and collided with the Ogu family’s bungalow in Iho. Mrs. Ogu was inside the house at the time of the crash.

A source, Mr. Emma Emeka, said the driver allegedly dozed off while driving, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and strike the building, killing Mrs. Ogu and severely injuring her husband.

“The incident occurred late at night when most families had retired. We heard a loud noise followed by screams from Mr. Ogu. When we rushed out, we saw Mrs. Chioma Ogu lying lifeless; she was crushed by the truck. As we speak, Mr. Ogu is battling for his life.”

“Tragically, until her death, Mrs. Chioma was preparing for her own mother’s burial scheduled for this weekend,” Emeka said.

Efforts to reach the Imo State Police spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, for comment were unsuccessful.
