President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Ibrahim, a 1990 law graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, was until his appointment the Chairman of the Nigerian Senate Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Worldwide.

He was elected into the Nigerian Senate in 2023, representing Ondo South Senatorial District.

Born in 1967 in Igbotako, Okitipupa Local Government Area, Ibrahim holds a doctorate degree from the University of Cambridge.

He also obtained a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a Master of Science degree from the University of Oxford.

During his time in the Senate, Ibrahim served on several committees including Appropriations, Finance, Gas, Education, Niger Delta Development Commission, Capital Market, Diaspora and NGOs, Trade and Investment, Housing, and Niger Delta.

He also represented Nigeria in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament and served as an executive member of the Pan-African Parliament.

Among the bills he sponsored in the Senate are the Bitumen Development Bill, Federal Medical Centre Igbotako Bill, Insurance (Amendment) Act and the Nigeria Data Bank Bill, all of which were passed by the Senate.

Ibrahim also moved motions on issues including the extension of federal road construction from Ore to Igbokoda and the call for a National Security Summit.

Meanwhile, the President of the United Nations Inter-Parliamentary body has congratulated the Nigerian Senate and its President, Godswill Akpabio, describing Ibrahim’s appointment as a boost to Africa’s voice at the United Nations.
