Nine serving senators from different political parties on Thursday defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The lawmakers include Aminu Tambuwal from Sokoto State, Eyinnaya Abaribe representing Abia, Binos Yaroe from Adamawa, Victor Umeh and Tony Nwonye both from Anambra State.
Others who joined the ADC are Lawal Usman from Kaduna State, Ogoshi Onawo representing Nasarawa State, Augustine Akobundu from Abia State, and Ireti Kingibe representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Their defection adds a significant boost to the ADC’s presence in the National Assembly and signals fresh political realignments ahead of future electoral contests.
The letters of defection addressed to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, were read during plenary.
