BREAKING: Power Minister Adelabu resigns to contest Oyo Governorship election

on

The Honourable Minister of Power, Adelabu A. Adebayo, has formally resigned from his ministerial position, paving the way for his gubernatorial ambition in Oyo State.

In a letter addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu via the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Adebayo expressed deep gratitude for the trust placed in him and the opportunity to serve in the Federal Government.

Highlighting his tenure, he noted his contributions to strengthening the nation’s power sector, in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. “My decision to resign is to enable me fully pursue my aspiration to contest for the office of Governor of Oyo State and to dedicate my time and resources to that endeavour,” he stated.

Adebayo, a seasoned professional holding the OFR, FCA, and FCIB designations, described his service in the power sector as a privilege, emphasizing its critical role in economic growth and national development.

Political analysts observe that his resignation signals the start of a competitive 2026 governorship race in Oyo State, with Adebayo expected to leverage his federal experience and prominence in the power sector to strengthen his political appeal.

The move adds to a wave of political repositioning ahead of the state elections, highlighting the intensifying contest for leadership in Oyo State.
