Fayose pays courtesy visit to Obasanjo in Ogun

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has paid a courtesy visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his Abeokuta residence in Ogun State, ahead of his 65th birthday celebration on November 15.

The visit, which took place on Sunday, appeared to mark a reconciliation between the two political figures, who had been at loggerheads for several years.

Photos shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, showed both leaders sharing warm moments.

In one of the pictures, Obasanjo, dressed in a white traditional attire with a green cap, was seen playing ‘Ayo’, a popular Yoruba board game, while Fayose watched on a gesture that reflected a friendly atmosphere.

The visit has stirred reactions among political observers, who see it as a possible signal of renewed alliances and mended relationships within Nigeria’s political space.

Fayose and Obasanjo’s relationship has long been marked by tension, with both leaders often on opposite sides in politics.

The meeting also comes amid a series of high-profile visits to Fayose in the lead-up to his birthday, including one from former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday.

Osinbajo said he decided to visit Fayose ahead of the celebration because he would not be available on the day of the event.

During the visit, both leaders exchanged warm pleasantries and reflected on national issues, with Osinbajo commending Fayose’s courage and consistency in public life.

Fayose, in turn, expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as a mark of respect and friendship across political lines.
