A vote for Obi under NDC is a vote for me too — Kwankwaso

Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said that a vote for Peter Obi under the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) would also amount to support for him, should he emerge as the party’s vice-presidential candidate.

Kwankwaso made the remark while speaking on what he described as a “historic election” ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, the emerging political arrangement could redefine Kano’s place in Nigeria’s national leadership structure.

“We are about to witness a historic election, the likes of which have never been seen before in the history of Kano and Nigeria,” Kwankwaso said.

“Particularly, if I emerge as the vice-presidential candidate and my name is on the ballot papers, whoever votes for the NDC is not just voting for someone else (Peter Obi); they are voting for Rabiu Kwankwaso.”

He argued that the development would be significant for Kano State, noting that no indigene of the state has ever occupied the vice-presidential position since Nigeria’s First Republic despite its population strength and political influence.

“This is imperative for the people of Kano because, since the inception of the First Republic to date, no Kano indigene has ever emerged as a vice-presidential candidate, despite our massive population and deep political experience,” he said.

Kwankwaso added that securing the vice-presidential ticket would open a pathway for Kano to eventually produce a president in the future.

“We are going to correct this historical anomaly if we secure the ticket. A vice-presidential ticket for Kano is a one-way route to producing a president from Kano. We will leverage that opportunity to ensure our people benefit,” he stated.

He also urged supporters in Kano, the North-West, and across the country to mobilise and participate actively in the electoral process.
