Adamawa State University gets NUC approval for creation of Medical Sciences College

The National Universities Commission has approved the establishment of a College of Medical Sciences at Adamawa State University, located in Mubi, Adamawa State.

The institution, founded in 2002 by the Adamawa State Government, is set to expand its academic offerings with the new college aimed at strengthening medical education in the region.

The approval followed an inspection of facilities within and around the university by an NUC panel. The team briefed the Adamawa State Government on Thursday, presenting its findings after assessing the readiness of the institution to host the new college.

The leader of the panel, Professor Auwal Abubakar, expressed satisfaction with the available facilities.

He, however, called for more manpower for the proposed departments of the college.

The Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, who received the NUC panel, assured of the government’s continued support for the realisation of the university’s set goals, including the planned medical college.

She said this is especially so as the health sector remains a top priority of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.

“The establishment of the medical college and establishment of its teaching hospital will further expand the health delivery for the citizens,” the deputy governor noted.

Very Nigerian reports that the existing Specialist Hospital, Yola, is being considered for expansion and upgrading as the teaching hospital for the ADSU Medical College.
