ADC Crisis: David Mark holds closed-door talks with PRP leaders

The embattled National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, on Friday held a closed-door meeting with leaders of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), signalling fresh political consultations amid the party’s lingering leadership crisis.

The high-level meeting, held away from public view, brought together key figures from both parties, highlighting growing alignments among opposition actors at a time of heightened internal wrangling within the ADC.

Among those present were PRP National Chairman, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed; ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi; PRP spokesman, Muhammed Ishaq; and former APC National Vice Chairman (North), Salihu Lukman, among others.

Baba-Ahmed, who recently assumed leadership of the PRP, had earlier resigned his role as Special Adviser on Political Matters to Vice President Kashim Shettima in April 2025, a move widely interpreted as a return to partisan politics.

Although no official communiqué was issued after the meeting, a source familiar with the discussions revealed that the PRP reaffirmed its support for the Mark-led ADC leadership in its ongoing dispute with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other state institutions.

“The PRP expressed strong solidarity with the ADC regarding its ongoing dispute with INEC and other government institutions,” the source said, adding that the party condemned what it described as anti-democratic actions against the ADC.

In response, Mark reportedly appreciated the show of support, noting that the PRP remains the only political party to publicly align with the ADC during the crisis. He also expressed optimism about sustained collaboration between both parties in the national interest.

The meeting comes as tensions continue to escalate within the ADC, following the emergence of a third faction that recently endorsed INEC’s decision to withdraw recognition from the Mark-led leadership, citing a Court of Appeal judgment.

The faction also rejected the leadership claims of Nafiu Bala Gombe and accused former party chairman Ralph Nwosu of attempting to hand over the party structure to external interests.
