Top figures of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), including Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, were present in Abuja on Wednesday as they joined supporters for the “Save Democracy Protest” held at Maitama Roundabout.

Earlier in the day, Obi had announced the protest via his X (formerly Twitter) handle, urging Nigerians to stand up in defence of the nation’s democratic system.

He explained that the demonstration was organised by members and leaders of the African Democratic Congress, alongside other concerned citizens, to resist what they described as growing threats to Nigeria’s democracy.

“We, members and leaders of the ADC and other well-meaning Nigerians, lovers of democracy, are saying that our democracy must not be killed.

“We say no to a one-party system, and for that reason today we are calling on Nigerians who believe in unity, peace and the security of our country to join us as we defend democracy in our land,” Obi stated.

A flyer circulating online ahead of the protest reads:

“SAVE DEMOCRACY PROTEST!

Defend our freedom protect our vote! Save our democracy, You are welcome, Maitama roundabout, Abuja. Your vote matters.
