ADC suffers setback as thousands of supporters defect to APC in Sokoto

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded a major political gain in Sokoto State following the defection of thousands of supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Gorau Town, the political base of the member representing Gada/Goronyo Federal Constituency, Hon. Bashir Usman Gorau.

The mass defection took place in Gorau/Takakume Ward of Goronyo Local Government Area and is being viewed as a significant setback for the ADC in Sokoto East Senatorial District, coming from the constituency of one of the party’s prominent elected officials.

The defectors were formally received at a rally attended by APC leaders, stakeholders and supporters, who described the development as further evidence of the party’s growing popularity and confidence in the administration of Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto.

Receiving the new members, the APC Zonal Vice Chairman for Sokoto East, Alhaji Muhammad Musa Sarkin Alaru, assured them of equal rights and opportunities within the party, stressing that the APC remains committed to inclusive leadership and the development of Sokoto State.

He also commended the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Alhaji Hussaini N. Umar Gorau, for his grassroots mobilisation efforts, noting that they had contributed significantly to expanding the party’s support base in the area.

Speaking at the rally, Hussaini Gorau attributed the growing wave of defections across the state to the people-oriented policies of Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto and the political leadership of Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.

According to him, the administration’s investments in road infrastructure, rural development, agriculture, security and the fight against banditry have continued to improve the lives of residents while attracting more supporters to the APC.

Also speaking, the APC Chairman in Goronyo Local Government Area, Alhaji Sa’idu Muhammad Goronyo, urged the new members to remain united and committed to the party’s ideals in order to sustain its growing influence across the council area.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Nasiru Mukhtar Gorau said their decision to join the APC was informed by what they described as the visible achievements of the Governor Ahmad Aliyu-led administration, particularly in infrastructure development, improved security and the provision of essential social amenities to rural communities.

The event also featured the presentation of awards to the Minister of State for Works, Barrister Bello Muhammad Goronyo; the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Alhaji Hussaini N. Umar Gorau; and the APC Sokoto East Senatorial candidate, Alhaji Umar Ajiya, in recognition of their contributions to community development and the growth of the party.
