AFCON 2025: Drama as Osimhen threatens to return to Galatasaray after clash with Lookman
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has reportedly threatened to walk away from the Nigerian national team and return to Turkey following an incident at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Very Nigerian reports that the Napoli forward was furious after an altercation with team-mate Ademola Lookman during Nigeria’s 4-0 victory over Mozambique on Monday.
Osimhen, who scored twice in the match with assists from Lookman, was seen angrily confronting the winger in the 64th minute after he failed to square the ball to him despite being in a good scoring position.
The report claimed that the 27-year-old’s reaction sparked tension on the pitch and continued after the game, with Osimhen allegedly expressing frustration over what he viewed as selfish play.
Nigeria, however, went on to dominate the encounter comfortably, with Osimhen’s brace helping the Super Eagles strengthen their campaign at the tournament.
Osimhen then beckoned on the bench asking to be taken off, before he was replaced by Moses Simon.
At full time, Osimhen stormed out of the stadium and dropped his accreditation card, insisting he was “done” with the national team and wanted to fly back to Turkey.
He was then pacified by senior officials of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF.
