A’Ibom Police nab three suspected armed robbers, seize weapons

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has apprehended three suspected armed robbers and recovered dangerous weapons during separate operations across the state.

DSP Timfon John, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Monday in Uyo. He stated that the suspects were taken into custody last Friday around 8:00 pm following actionable intelligence.

The statement revealed that two of the suspects were found at a native doctor’s residence in Ikot Ineme Village, where they were reportedly receiving treatment for undisclosed ailments.

The Police Command has assured that further investigations are ongoing to bring other accomplices to justice.

The third suspect was later arrested during the course of the investigation.

The suspects were identified as Akan Udo (40) of Ikot Edem Udo Village, Namso Monday (20) of Ikot Umo Essien Odoro Ikot Village, and Mbata Udo (40) of Ikot Ukpong Offiong Village.

The statement added that a comprehensive search led to the recovery of one locally made pistol, one locally made revolver, 16 machetes, six mobile phones, two generators, one battle axe, one plier, and other incriminating items.

It also revealed that the native doctor, alleged to have aided the criminal gang, is currently at large, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend him.

”The Akwa Ibom State Police Command, in its relentless effort to rid the state of criminally minded elements, has successfully dismantled a three-man armed robbery syndicate and recovered arms and ammunition.

”On Friday, November 7, 2025, at approximately 20:00 hours, police operatives acting on credible intelligence apprehended two suspects at a native doctor’s residence in Ikot Ineme Village. The suspects, identified as Akan Udo, 40 years, of Ikot Edem Udo Village, and Namso Monday, 20 years of Ikot Umo Essien Odoro Ikot Village, were arrested while receiving treatment for undisclosed ailments.

”The native doctor, who is suspected of aiding the criminal gang, is currently at large, and efforts are underway to apprehend him.

”During the subsequent investigation, a third suspect was identified and arrested in connection with the same armed robbery incident. He was identified as Mbata Udo, 40 years of Ikot Ukpong Offiong Village.

“A comprehensive search led to the recovery of the following items from the suspects, one locally made pistol, one locally made revolver pistol, sixteen machetes, six mobile phones, two big generators, one battle axe, pne pliers and other incriminating items.”

John said the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare, commended the officers for their professionalism and reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to rid the state of criminal elements.

She added that the suspects would be charged in court upon completion of investigations.

Recall that during the weekend, the Delta State Police Command arrested a suspected armed robber, Stanley Chibuike, who concealed a pistol in a loaf of bread.

The Spokesperson for the command, SP Bright Edafe, “On November 6, 2025, the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Delta State Command, while conducting a routine stop-and-search operation at Koka Roundabout, Asaba, intercepted a young man whose suspicious behaviour prompted a thorough search.
