APC announces new North-West executives
The All Progressives Congress on Wednesday announced its North-West zonal executive committee, with Mr Garba Babawo from Kaduna State emerging as chairman of the zone.
Hadiza Alhaji from Sokoto State was named the zonal woman leader, while Abdulhamid Moh’d from Kano State retained his position as zonal youth leader.
Other officials appointed include Salisu Tsafe from Zamfara State as organising secretary, Mailafiya Mada, also from Zamfara State, as publicity secretary, and Bashir Hussaini from Jigawa State as legal adviser.
The appointments, said to aim at strengthening the party’s structure in the North-West, coincided with the APC North-West Zonal Congress in Kaduna, where Governor Uba Sani positioned himself as a unifying force within the party.
Addressing delegates, Sani described the congress as a “powerful affirmation of the APC’s identity as a truly democratic and grassroots-driven political party,” emphasising that leadership is determined by transparent processes rather than hierarchy.
He welcomed new entrants into the party, including Governors Abba Yusuf of Kano State and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, describing their defection as “momentous” for the party’s national outlook.
Sani also defended President Bola Tinubu’s reform agenda, highlighting gains in agriculture, energy, and social interventions such as the student loan scheme.
The congress, attended by top political figures across the zone, ended with the emergence of Garba Babawo as the APC National Vice Chairman for the North-West through consensus.
Among dignitaries present were the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.
Also in attendance were Governors Yusuf, Dikko Radda, Aliyu Sokoto, Umar Namadi, and Dauda Lawal, alongside the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.
