APC confirms Abbas, Benjamin Kalu, others win Reps tickets in Kaduna, Abia primaries

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu have secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) tickets to contest for another term in the National Assembly.

The APC announced the results of its House of Representatives primary elections held in Kaduna State on Saturday, alongside similar exercises in other constituencies across the country.

In Zaria Federal Constituency, Speaker Abbas emerged unopposed after polling 930 votes, with the party declaring him the winner of the primary.

In Zango Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency, Amos Magaji also emerged through consensus after securing 1,930 votes, while Samaila Suleiman won the Kaduna North Federal Constituency ticket with 3,049 votes, defeating Abdulaziz Kaka and Abubakar Mahmoud.

In Kaura Federal Constituency, Benjamin Gugong polled 1,085 votes to defeat Donatus Mathieu, while Mukhtar Chiawai emerged as consensus candidate for Kauru Federal Constituency with 1,750 votes.

Other winners included Felix Bagudu for Kachia Federal Constituency, Daniel Amos for Jema’a/Sanga, Gabriel Salle for Kagarko/Kachia, Sadiq Abdullahi for his constituency, Muhammad Jallo, and Bashir Suleiman Juntu, who all emerged victorious in their respective contests.

According to Yakubu Hosseini, chairman of the House of Representatives primary election committee, the exercise was conducted in line with the APC constitution and guidelines, with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) present during collation.

Kalu Returns Unopposed In Abia

In Abia State, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu emerged unopposed as the APC candidate for Bende Federal Constituency following the party’s primary election.

The exercise was conducted across 13 wards in the constituency, including Alayi, Bende, Igbere, Item, Uzuakoli and others.

A statement from his media office said party leaders, ward executives and stakeholders unanimously endorsed his return bid, commending his legislative performance and constituency projects.

Kalu, who has been in the House of Representatives since 2019 and became Deputy Speaker in 2023, thanked party members and constituents for their support, pledging to continue delivering democratic dividends and promoting inclusive governance.
