APC fixes presidential primary for May 23, dismisses postponement reports
The All Progressives Congress has announced that its presidential primary election for the 2027 general elections will hold on May 23, 2026, dismissing reports claiming that the exercise had been postponed.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described reports circulating on social media and other communication platforms about changes to the primary election timetable as false and misleading.
The ruling party also released dates for other primary elections ahead of the polls.
According to the timetable, the House of Representatives primary election will take place on May 15, 2026, while the Senate primary election has been scheduled for May 18.
The party further stated that the State House of Assembly primary election would be conducted on May 20, 2026.
The APC urged party members and the public to disregard unverified information regarding the primary election schedule and rely only on official communications from the party.
According to the timetable, the governorship primary election is scheduled for May 21, while the presidential primary is slated for May 23, 2026.
On Saturday, the party commenced screening of incumbent governors ahead of the 2027 general election.
Governors screened by the committee included Abba Yusuf of Kano, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, Nasir Idris of Kebbi, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, and Hyacinth Alia of Benue.
Others were Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, Umar Bago of Niger, Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, Bassey Otu of Cross River, and Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto.
