Arabic Education should be integrated into national curriculum – Gov. Bala Mohammed

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has called for the integration of Arabic education into Nigeria’s education system to ensure graduates of Arabic-speaking universities enjoy equal recognition and opportunities.

The governor made the call while receiving leaders of Nigerian students studying in universities in Saudi Arabia during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Bauchi.

The delegation was led by the Director of the Centre for Sunnah Studies in Africa, Dr. Shuaibu Idris, who said the visit was to appreciate Governor Mohammed’s commitment to education and brief him on the Centre’s activities, particularly its support for Bauchi State students pursuing higher education in Saudi Arabia.

Speaking during the meeting, Governor Mohammed expressed concern over what he described as the gradual decline of Northern Nigeria’s rich Arabic educational heritage.

He noted that the region has historically maintained strong educational, religious and cultural ties with the Arab world, stressing that Arabic education deserves greater recognition within Nigeria’s formal education framework.

According to the governor, integrating Arabic education into the national curriculum would provide graduates of Arabic-speaking institutions with equal opportunities while strengthening educational development across the country.

Mohammed also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to reviving the abandoned Arabic College in Alkaleri, saying the initiative would expand access to quality Arabic education and help preserve the region’s long-standing educational heritage.

Earlier, representatives of the Nigerian students studying in Saudi Arabian universities commended the governor for his continued support and encouragement.

They pledged to utilise the knowledge and experience acquired during their studies to contribute to the development of Bauchi State and Nigeria upon their return.
