Atiku hosts EU ambassador Gautier Mignot, discusses 2027 elections, Nigeria-EU relations

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has hosted the Head of the European Union Delegation to Nigeria, Ambassador Gautier Mignot, at his residence in Abuja, where both leaders discussed issues of mutual interest, including Nigeria’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Sharing details of the meeting on his official social media platforms, Atiku said the discussions also focused on strengthening relations between Nigeria and the European Union.

According to the former vice president, he appreciated the ambassador’s visit and commended the European Union for its continued support towards promoting free, fair, peaceful and credible elections in Nigeria.

He also acknowledged the EU’s efforts in supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s economy.

“This afternoon, I had the honour of hosting His Excellency Ambassador Gautier Mignot, Head of the European Union Delegation to Nigeria, at my residence in Abuja.

“We engaged in productive discussions on issues of mutual interest between Nigeria and the EU, with particular emphasis on the upcoming general elections. I expressed my appreciation for the Ambassador’s visit and for the European Union’s ongoing commitment to supporting free, fair, peaceful, and credible elections, as well as efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s economy,” Atiku wrote.

The meeting comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum across the country.
