Bago orders immediate closure of schools across Niger State
The Niger State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all public and private primary and secondary schools across the state following the recent kidnapping of schoolchildren from St. Mary’s Catholic School, Papiri, in Agwara Local Government Area.
Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago announced the decision after a security meeting with heads of security agencies.
He said all missionary and Islamic schools, as well as Federal Government Colleges, including FGC Minna, have been shut down until further notice.
The governor clarified that tertiary institutions are not affected, except those located in vulnerable areas within Niger North and Niger East senatorial districts.
Governor Bago urged security agencies, civil society groups, organised labour, and religious leaders to prioritise efforts toward rescuing the abducted children.
He described the attack as “sad and unfortunate” and assured citizens that the government is committed to protecting lives and property.
He added that the exact number of abducted students has not yet been confirmed, as the DSS, the Nigeria Police, and other security agencies are still conducting a headcount to determine the accurate figure.
