Bauchi to observe public holiday Friday in honour of Late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has declared Friday, November 28, as a work-free day to honour the late Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.
Very Nigerian reports the governor had earlier confirmed the passing of the highly respected spiritual leader, who died in the early hours of Thursday at the age of 102.
Sources told our correspondent that Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi passed away on Wednesday night at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi.
His body has been moved to the family residence along Gombe Road, where funeral prayers are scheduled for today.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Mukhtar Gidado, the work-free day declaration is to allow government workers, students, followers, and the general public to participate in the funeral prayers and pay their last respects.
The funeral prayer is scheduled to take place tomorrow in accordance with Islamic rites.
“This decision is a mark of respect for the late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, whose life and legacy in Islamic scholarship, Qur’anic education, spiritual mentorship, and promotion of peace and unity have left a profound impact in Nigeria and beyond.”
The government also urged citizens to join in prayers for the repose of Sheikh Bauchi’s soul and to offer support and comfort to his family, students, and followers.
“May the soul of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi rest in eternal peace. Ameen,” the statement concluded.
