Bayelsa Deputy Gov Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo passes away at 60

Bayelsa State has been thrown into mourning following the death of Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who passed away at the age of 60.

Ewhrudjakpo was reported to have collapsed in his office in Yenagoa on Thursday, December 11, 2025. He was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in the state capital.

Sources revealed that he slumped at about 1:30 p.m. and was taken straight to the hospital’s emergency ward, where medical personnel placed him in the Intensive Care Unit in an effort to stabilise him.

His death has since sparked shock and grief across the state.

The deputy governor’s media aide, Doubara Atasi confirmed the development but declined to give details.

Hospital sources disclosed that Ewhrudjakpo died after efforts to revive him in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) failed.

Born on September 5, 1965, Ewhrudjakpo had served as the deputy governor of Bayelsa State since 2020.
