Blessing Onuh, daughter of ADC national chairman wins APC Reps ticket in Benue
Blessing Onuh, daughter of former Senate President and National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket to seek re-election into the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Also victorious in the APC primaries in Benue State was Regina Akume, wife of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, who retained the party’s ticket for Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency.
The APC conducted direct primary elections across the 11 federal constituencies in Benue State on Saturday.
The exercise, however, produced major upsets as six serving lawmakers lost their return bids, including several lawmakers believed to be loyal to the SGF.
Among those who lost their tickets were Dickson Tarkghir (Makurdi/Guma), Sesoo Gboko (Vandeikya/Konshisha), Asema Achado (Gwer East/Gwer West), Ugbor Terseer (Kwande/Ushongo), Sekav Iortyom (Buruku), and David Ogewu (Oju/Obi).
Blessing Onuh emerged victorious in the Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency primary, while other incumbents who retained their tickets included Ojema Ojotu of Apa/Agatu and Solomon Wombo of Katsina-Ala/Logo/Ukum Federal Constituency.
In Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, Anthony Agom emerged winner following the defection of incumbent lawmaker Philip Agbese from the APC to the Labour Party shortly before the primaries.
Elsewhere, Engr. Terfa Ikya defeated incumbent Dickson Tarkghir in Makurdi/Guma, while Engr. Terhemba Nongo unseated Asema Achado in Gwer East/Gwer West.
Prof. Kohol Iornem also defeated incumbent Ugbor Terseer in Kwande/Ushongo, while Engr. Livinus Tsar emerged victorious over Sesoo Gboko in Vandeikya/Konshisha.
In Buruku Federal Constituency, Gideon Inyom defeated incumbent Sekav Iortyom, although the primary was reportedly disrupted by the snatching of results in one ward before security operatives restored order and arrested a suspect.
At Oju/Obi Federal Constituency, former Commissioner for Information, Dr. Peter Egbodo, defeated incumbent David Ogewu after resigning from Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration to contest the seat.
Chairman of the National Assembly Primary Election Committee for Benue State, Alhaji Sabiu Saidu Mahuta, declared the highest scorers winners of the contests and urged all aspirants to accept the outcome in good faith.
