BREAKING: 15 CAC worshippers regain freedom after 67 Days in captivity in Ekiti
Worshippers of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Igbala, Eda Oniyo-Ekiti, in Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State, have regained their freedom after spending 67 days in captivity.
The victims were released late on Friday night, bringing an end to more than two months of anxiety for their families and the community.
They reportedly arrived in Eda Oniyo shortly before midnight and were taken to a medical facility for examination and treatment following the physical and psychological trauma they endured while in captivity.
The worshippers were abducted on April 28, 2026, when heavily armed gunmen invaded a church revival programme at the Oke Igbala prayer mountain.
During the attack, the assailants reportedly opened fire, killing a pastor before abducting 15 worshippers and taking them into the forest.
Confirming the development on Saturday, a community leader said the victims had finally regained their freedom after weeks in captivity.
He, however, disclosed that one of the abductees died while in captivity, describing the loss as a painful tragedy for the deceased’s family and the entire community.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ekiti State Police Command had not officially confirmed the release or provided details on the circumstances surrounding the victims’ freedom.
Efforts to obtain comments from the police spokesperson were unsuccessful.
