BREAKING: Arsenal clinch first Premier League title in 22 years
Arsenal have been confirmed as English Premier League champions after Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw by Bournemouth on Tuesday night, sealing the title race in favour of the North London club.
The result ensured that Arsenal F.C. replace Liverpool as EPL champions, with Mikel Arteta guiding the team to their first league triumph in 22 years.
Arsenal currently hold a five-point lead over Manchester City, making it mathematically impossible for Pep Guardiola’s side to overtake them ahead of the final fixtures of the season.
Although the Gunners still have a final-day London derby against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, the title has already been decided.
The triumph marks Arsenal’s first Premier League crown since the iconic 2003/04 “Invincibles” season, when the club went unbeaten throughout the entire campaign.
This season’s team, however, has also set new benchmarks, including scoring 19 goals from corner kicks — surpassing the previous record of 16.
Arsenal have also recorded 28 league wins this season, two more than the Invincibles managed in their historic unbeaten run.
For manager Mikel Arteta, the title represents the biggest achievement of his coaching career, adding to his FA Cup triumph in 2020 and two Community Shield victories.
The Gunners could still cap off an extraordinary season with another major honour, as they prepare for a UEFA Champions League final clash against Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest on May 30.
