An unspecified number of people are feared dead while several others sustained injuries following bomb explosions around Monday Market in Maiduguri, Borno State, and near a security post at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

The explosions reportedly occurred simultaneously at about 7:02 p.m. on Monday, causing panic among residents and traders in the affected areas.

Confirming the incident, the Head of Operations of the Federal Fire Service in Borno State, Mohammed Kafaran, said emergency teams had been deployed to the scene.

“Yes, there was a bomb explosion at the Monday Market area around Elkanemi. We have deployed our team there to assess the situation. We will get back to you shortly,” he said.

Eyewitnesses said several injured victims were quickly evacuated to nearby hospitals for treatment.

One witness said there were bodies lying on the ground while many wounded persons were rushed to the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri.

Another resident, who declined to be named, described the moment the explosion occurred.

“I had just left the post office and was on my way when I suddenly heard a loud blast,” the resident said.

Emergency responders have continued rescue and assessment operations at the affected locations as authorities work to determine the number of casualties.

Further details are expected as investigations into the incident continue.Headline Suggestions
