BREAKING: Ex-Benue SSG, Prof. David Salifu escapes gunmen’s ambush, dies from injuries
Former Secretary to the Benue State Government (SSG), Prof. David Salifu, has died after reportedly sustaining gunshot injuries during an attack by unknown gunmen.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Thursday in Wukari, Taraba State, while the former SSG was travelling to Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
Sources said Prof. Salifu was attacked by suspected kidnappers but managed to escape from the assailants.
However, he sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter.
He was rushed to a hospital in Makurdi for emergency medical treatment but was later confirmed dead on Thursday night.
The circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear, while security authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command for comments were unsuccessful, as calls to the Police Public Relations Officer were not answered.
The death of the former Benue SSG has added to growing concerns over the persistent security challenges and rising incidents of kidnapping along major highways in the North-Central region.
