BREAKING: Fire engulfs Murtala Muhammed airport old terminal in Lagos
A fire has reportedly broken out at the old terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, which is currently undergoing a multibillion-naira renovation.
Details of the incident remain unclear as authorities continue to assess the situation.
This is not the first fire at the airport in recent times. On September 6, 2023, a blaze also occurred at the international wing of the facility, raising concerns about safety and fire prevention measures at the busy Lagos airport.
According to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), a suspected electrical spark at the baggage hall ceiling caused the smoke incident that was reported at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, located in Lagos.
The source of the smoke was identified as a burning litium inverter battery installation at the basement.
