BREAKING: Fresh crisis rock ADC as another faction breaks out, distance self from Mark-led, Nafiu camps
A new faction has emerged within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), distancing itself from the coalition led by Senator David Mark and the group associated with Nafiu Bala.
The faction, led by Don Norman Obinna, claims to represent the duly elected members of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
Speaking at a briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, Obinna stated that the tenure of former party chairman Ralph Nwosu, who previously handed control of the party to the David Mark-led group, ended in August 2022.
The group further noted that following the expiration of Nwosu’s tenure, he faced a series of legal challenges for refusing to step down from office.
The new faction insists it now holds legitimate authority within the party and is steering the ADC forward independently of the Mark coalition.
It described the handover to the opposition coalition as an illegal act taken by Nwosu.
It announced some key resolutions which include a dissociation of itself from Senator Mark and other coalition members as well as from Bala Nafiu whom it says never held the position of National Vice Chairman.
It says the David Mark coalition are not members of ADC and cannot speak for the party.
The group also resolved that its former Presidential Candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu is still a member of ADC
It says new members have been appointed to manage the affairs of the party pending when the national convention will be conducted.
