BREAKING: NDC zones 2027 presidential ticket to South for single four-year term
The Nigeria Democratic Congress has officially zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria for a single four-year term.
The decision was adopted during the maiden national convention of the party after a motion moved by Afam Victor Ogene, a member representing Ogbaru Constituency of Anambra State in the 10th National Assembly.
Delegates at the convention overwhelmingly adopted the motion, which also resolved that after the completion of the single four-year tenure, the party’s presidential ticket would automatically return to Northern Nigeria.
The development is expected to strengthen the chances of southern aspirants within the party, including former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, who is widely believed to be preparing for the 2027 presidential race on the NDC platform.
The zoning arrangement comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition parties intensifying consultations and coalition talks across the country.
More details are expected from the convention.
