BREAKING: Rivers Assembly resumes amid Wike-Fubara tensions
The Rivers State House of Assembly is set to resume plenary today, bringing forward its previously scheduled return from January 26.
Very Nigerian reports that the early resumption comes amid growing political tensions between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who currently serves as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Sources note that a majority of the assembly members remain loyal to Wike and have reportedly vowed to oppose Fubara’s agenda as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.
The early return of the legislature is seen by observers as a potential move linked to these ongoing political rivalries.
Tension arising from the power struggle between Wike and Fubara has created uncertainties and anxieties in the oil rich Niger Delta state.
