Brentford punish error-prone Liverpool in dramatic 3-2 EPL victory

Liverpool’s Premier League struggles continued as they fell 3-2 to Brentford on Saturday, marking their fourth consecutive league defeat and extending a poor run of form for the defending champions.

Goals from Dango Ouattara, Kevin Schade, and Igor Thiago sealed the win for Brentford, who climbed to 10th on the table.

Meanwhile, Liverpool slipped to sixth and risk falling seven points behind leaders Arsenal by Sunday.

Arne Slot’s side has now lost five of their last six games across all competitions, despite spending nearly £450 million in the transfer window.

The Reds looked disjointed once again, with their title defense crumbling in alarming fashion.

Brentford exploited Liverpool’s weakness in defending set-pieces, opening the scoring through Ouattara, who volleyed home after Kristoffer Ajer flicked on a long throw from Michael Kayode.

Liverpool had chances to respond, but Florian Wirtz missed a clear opportunity to score his first goal for the club.

Brentford doubled their lead through Schade, who raced past Ibrahima Konate to slot past Giorgi Mamardashvili after a precise pass from Mikkel Damsgaard.

Although Milos Kerkez pulled one back for Liverpool before halftime, Brentford restored their two-goal advantage after VAR awarded a penalty for Virgil van Dijk’s foul on Ouattara. Thiago converted calmly to make it 3-1.

Mohamed Salah ended his six-game goal drought late in the match with a brilliant strike off the underside of the bar, but it wasn’t enough to rescue Liverpool from another disappointing defeat.

The result further deepens Liverpool’s crisis following a turbulent summer overhaul and emotional setbacks within the squad.
