Bruno Fernandes wins 2026 PFA Players’ Player of the Year
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been named the 2026 Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Players’ Player of the Year after being voted the outstanding player of the 2025/26 season by his fellow professionals.
The Portuguese midfielder received the prestigious award at the 53rd annual PFA Awards ceremony held at the Manchester Opera House in Manchester, United Kingdom, on Tuesday.
Fernandes emerged ahead of five other nominees in the men’s category, including Manchester City stars Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki, as well as Arsenal trio Declan Rice, David Raya and Gabriel Magalhães.
The award caps an impressive campaign for the Manchester United skipper, who played a key role in the club’s third-place finish in the Premier League and their return to the UEFA Champions League.
Fernandes also enjoyed a remarkable individual season, registering 21 assists in the Premier League. His performances had previously earned him the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year award and the Premier League Player of the Season honour.
Haaland went into the PFA contest after claiming his third Premier League Golden Boot, having scored 27 goals in 35 league appearances for Manchester City.
His City teammate Cherki was also shortlisted after making an impressive impact during his first season in English football, while Arsenal’s Rice, Raya and Gabriel were recognised following the club’s title-winning campaign.
The PFA Players’ Player of the Year is regarded as one of the most prestigious individual honours in English football because the winner is selected by fellow professional footballers.
Fernandes’ victory adds to a growing list of individual accolades for the Manchester United captain, who has remained one of the club’s most influential players since joining the team in January 2020.
