Chaos at EKSU as gunmen raid students’ hostels
Panic gripped Ekiti State University (EKSU) in Ado-Ekiti late Monday night as gunmen attacked students’ hostels, forcing many to run for safety.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers, armed with weapons, moved from hostel to hostel, snatching students’ valuables such as mobile phones, laptops, and cash.
A student who took to X (formerly Twitter) under the handle @yapperaholicc confirmed the attack, adding that such incidents have become a frequent occurrence in the area.
In the post made at around 3:01 am of Tuesday, the student wrote, “Armed men are attacking students in their hostels in EKSU at midnight!!!!!”
The user, who said the attack occurred at the Phase 2 area of the university community, added, “We are supposed to be reading for our exams! It has been going on for three days now!!! They are also robbing us. Please help us repost.”
When contacted, the public relations officer of the Ekiti State Police Command, Abutu Sunday, confirmed the attack, saying a suspect has been arrested and further investigation is going on.
“A suspect has been arrested in connection to the incident, and he is currently undergoing investigation, while necessary measures have been put in place to forestall reoccurrence,” he said.
Meanwhile, the students of the university have called on the state government and security agencies to intensify patrols and provide adequate protection in areas surrounding the institution.
