Cross River varsity seals deal with Chinese College for AI, Vocational Training
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Prof. Francisca Bassey, has explained that the institution’s partnership with Zhenjiang College in China is aimed at making UNICROSS globally competitive and enhancing academic excellence.
Prof. Bassey made this known during a joint meeting between the management of UNICROSS and representatives of Zhenjiang College, held at the Deputy Governor’s Conference Room, Government House, Calabar, on Wednesday.
She stated that the collaboration would give the university global exposure and open opportunities for students from both institutions to learn from each other. “The partnership will make UNICROSS globally competitive and provide opportunities for students to learn from each other,” she said.
According to her, the academic partnership will focus on key areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), electric vehicles, vocational training, and certificate programmes. Prof. Bassey added that it would also foster language and cultural exchange between students from Nigeria and China.
“The partnership is expected to be mutually beneficial, with opportunities for students from both institutions to study and learn from each other,” she explained.
She further noted that the collaboration would allow UNICROSS students to learn the Chinese language, while Chinese students would also learn Nigerian languages and culture. She added that the agreement would eventually enable Chinese students to study in Nigeria.
Representing Governor Bassey Otu, the Deputy Governor, Dr. Peter Odey, commended the initiative, expressing optimism that the partnership would be a long-term project promoting educational and cultural exchange between both institutions.
He also urged Skyrun, a partner company, to consider establishing a factory in Cross River State to strengthen economic ties and boost local development.
“The partnership is a significant step towards expanding UNICROSS’s mandate and reach,” Otu said.
The collaboration is regarded as a major milestone in UNICROSS’s efforts to revitalize its academic profile and enhance international engagement.
