Davido to pick Accord Party membership card in Osun
Grammy-nominated Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has announced plans to visit Osun State to formally collect his Accord Party membership card, days after his uncle and governor of the state, Senator Ademola Adeleke, defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Davido made the announcement on Tuesday through his verified social media platforms, revealing that he would be at the Osun State Government House, Osogbo, to complete the process.
“I will be live in Osun to pick up my @AccordPartyNG membership card @ Imole House, Osogbo tomorrow… see you soon accordingly,” the singer wrote while tagging Governor Adeleke.
The development comes amid significant political realignments in Osun State following Governor Adeleke’s resignation from the PDP and his defection to the Accord Party.
The governor formally announced his switch on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Osogbo, in the presence of national and state leaders of the Accord Party. At the event, Adeleke also declared his intention to seek a second term in office in the 2026 governorship election.
“I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago, precisely on November 6, as a platform to seek re-election in 2026,” Adeleke said, explaining that the decision followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders and opinion leaders across the state.
According to him, the move was aimed at sustaining good governance and completing ongoing developmental projects that his administration has initiated.
“Stakeholders and residents of Osun State are aware of why we are taking this important decision.”
“We intend to pursue a second term on the platform of the Accord Party to complete the delivery of good governance and democratic dividends, which have been applauded both at home and abroad,” he stated.
Governor Adeleke noted that the Accord Party’s welfarist ideology aligns with his administration’s focus on citizens’ welfare, inclusive governance and social development.
“I welcome our party leaders into the Osun State Government House. You are now part of us, as I am also part of you.”
“We are united in progress and good intentions for the good people of Osun State and Nigeria,” the governor said.
Describing the party as the platform for continuity, Adeleke expressed confidence that Osun voters would again support his leadership in 2026.
“Osun voted for good governance in 2022, and they will support continuity in 2026. The masses of our people are for continuity, and Accord is our party for victory next year,” he added.
Recall that Adeleke officially announced his resignation from the PDP on December 1, 2025, citing persistent leadership crises at the party’s national level.
In a statement shared on his Instagram page, the governor confirmed that he submitted his resignation letter to PDP officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government Area, on November 4, 2025.
Davido had earlier reacted to his uncle’s resignation by reposting the announcement on social media with the caption, “Jeje…”, a move widely interpreted as an expression of support for the governor’s political decision.
