Controversial Nigerian content creator, DJ Chicken, whose real name is Ademola Abiodun, has regained his freedom after fulfilling the bail conditions set for his release.

His lawyer, Rotimi Stephen, confirmed the development on Tuesday through an Instagram Story, where he wrote, “All glory to God. DJ Chicken.”

Human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, also announced the entertainer’s release in a post shared on X, confirming that he had been freed from detention.

“DJ Chicken (real name Ademola Abiodun) is free and reunited with his family, friends, and loved ones.

“No one should suffer oppression while the rest of us watch in silence, especially at the hands of powerful and corrupt forces.

“An injury to one is an injury to all. We will continue to stand up for the weak and fight against injustice wherever it occurs,” Sowore wrote.

A livestream shared on Instagram shortly after his release showed DJ Chicken inside a vehicle, smiling and interacting with followers.

His lawyer was also seen inside the vehicle during the livestream, which has since been screen-recorded and circulated across social media.

DJ Chicken was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre on Friday after he was arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in the Ogba area of Lagos State over an alleged threat to kill Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.

He was docked on a three-count charge bordering on alleged violations of the Cybercrimes Act, breach of peace and making threats to kill following a viral video in which he claimed that President Tinubu would not win re-election in 2027.

Following public backlash, the content creator retracted the statement, insisting it was a joke intended to attract attention and boost his popularity.

Despite the apology, he was arrested and subsequently arraigned.

After pleading not guilty to all the charges, the court granted him ₦1 million bail with two sureties in like sum.

The court also directed that one surety must be a civil servant while the other must be a community leader with landed property in Lagos State.

Both sureties were ordered to provide three years’ tax clearance, utility bills, National Identification Number details and Lagos State Residents Registration Agency registration, while one of them must be a blood relative of the defendant.

The case was adjourned until August 3, 2026, with the court initially ordering his remand pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions.

His release comes days after the remand order and has generated reactions online, with supporters welcoming the development while awaiting the continuation of his trial in August.
