EFCC debunks viral ‘secret recruitment’ report, warns Nigerians against fake employment claims

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed as false a viral social media post claiming that the anti-graft agency is conducting a secret recruitment exercise.

The commission issued the clarification on Monday through its verified X account, warning Nigerians not to be deceived by the circulating report.

In its response, the EFCC shared a graphic boldly labelled “FAKE NEWS” with the inscription: “THIS IS FALSE NEWS. BEWARE!”, stressing that the recruitment claim has no connection with the commission.

The misleading post alleged that the EFCC had quietly commenced a recruitment exercise and claimed that successful applicants would begin training next month. It also urged interested persons to send anonymous messages for further information.

Reacting to the report, the commission categorically disowned it and advised members of the public to disregard it.

The EFCC noted that the false claim is similar to previous fake recruitment announcements circulated online by fraudsters seeking to exploit unsuspecting job seekers.

The commission reiterated that all its recruitment exercises are conducted transparently and are publicly announced through its official communication channels. It emphasised that it does not recruit secretly or through unofficial agents or intermediaries.

The agency further urged Nigerians to verify all information relating to employment opportunities and other EFCC activities through its verified platforms before taking any action, warning that reliance on unverified social media posts could expose individuals to fraud.
