EPL: Arsenal extend lead after 1-0 win over West Ham
Arsenal F.C. kept their Premier League title hopes alive with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over West Ham United F.C. on Sunday at the London Stadium.
The Gunners went into the match under pressure after Manchester City F.C. cruised to a 3-0 win over Brentford F.C. on Saturday, forcing Mikel Arteta’s side to respond.
Arsenal dominated possession for long periods but struggled to convert their chances in the first half. West Ham remained compact defensively and frustrated the visitors as both sides went into the break level.
However, Arsenal eventually found the breakthrough in the second half to secure all three points and remain firmly in the Premier League title race.
Mikel Arteta will now hope his team can maintain the pressure on Manchester City as the season heads toward a dramatic conclusion.
The Hammers fought back and had chances of their own, before Arsenal eventually netted the winner.
Martin Odegaard skipped into the box and laid the ball for Leandro Trossard, who fired in what proved to be the winner.
There was late drama as West Ham thought they had an equalizer, but Calum Wilson’s goal was ruled out for an infringement on David Raya.
