Ex-C’River Gov, Donald Duke, dumps PDP, defects to ADC

Duke was officially registered as an ADC member in Ward 5, Calabar Municipality

Former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Duke was formally received into the ADC at Ward 5, Calabar Municipality, where he was issued his membership card amid cheers from party supporters and loyalists.

The defection marks the second time the former governor has parted ways with the PDP. He had earlier left the party for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), where he emerged as its presidential candidate in the 2019 general election, a move that generated widespread controversy at the time.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the ADC in Bakassi Local Government Area has called on residents of Cross River State to embrace the party, describing it as a credible alternative capable of driving meaningful change in Nigeria.

The call followed a stakeholders’ meeting involving chapter executives, ward chairmen and secretaries of the party in Bakassi, where party leaders urged Nigerians to rally behind the ADC to reclaim the country from what they described as years of misrule by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement issued to journalists in Calabar on Friday, the party appealed to undecided citizens to identify with the ADC.

“We invite our family members, friends and all undecided Nigerians to join the ADC today, as the party is fully prepared to deliver transformative leadership for Nigeria,” the statement said.

The statement, jointly signed by the Bakassi Chapter Chairman, Emmanuel Asuquo, and the Secretary, Eko Boco, reaffirmed the chapter’s loyalty to the national leadership of the party.

“We express our unwavering support and confidence in the leadership of Senator David Mark, National Chairman, and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, National Secretary. We pledge our loyalty to all recognised organs and structures of the party at all levels as we work towards building a strong, united and formidable ADC,” the statement added.
