FCT-IRS extends tax return deadline to April 30
The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) has announced a one-month extension for filing individual annual income tax returns, moving the deadline from March 31 to April 30, 2026.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the acting Executive Chairman of the agency, Michael Ango, explained that although March 31 remains the official deadline each year, the extension is meant to give taxpayers more time to submit correct returns and boost compliance across the Federal Capital Territory.
He stressed that paying taxes willingly is a civic responsibility and an important way citizens contribute to national development, urging residents to make the most of the extra time and file their returns promptly.
He also reiterated that electronic filing through the FCT-IRS tax portal remains the approved channel for submitting annual returns, as the agency continues to strengthen its digital tax administration system.
“Individuals are therefore encouraged to file their returns promptly through the designated FCT-IRS tax portal at www.taxporta.fctirs.gov.ng,” Ango said.
The FCT-IRS boss advised taxpayers to ensure that personal details including national identification number (NIN), phone numbers and addresses are correctly captured during onboarding on the portal to avoid processing delays.
He added that individuals requiring further assistance or enquires could visit any FCT-IRS office or reach the agency through its official contact channels.
On March 30, the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) extended the deadline for filing individual annual income tax returns to April 14.
