FG moves to reintegrate over 700 ex-terrorists into society

The Nigerian military has dismissed claims that clients of Operation Safe Corridor are being recruited into military institutions.

The Coordinator of the programme, Yusuf Ali, made this known during a media tour of facilities at the Deradicalisation, Rehabilitation and Reintegration Centre in Gombe, North-East Nigeria.

Ali explained that many Nigerians do not fully understand the Federal Government’s structured counter-terrorism initiative under Operation Safe Corridor, stressing that the programme is designed to deradicalise, rehabilitate, and reintegrate former insurgents, not enlist them into the armed forces.

According to him, the initiative remains focused on rebuilding peace in communities affected by terrorism across the country.

Some of the clients at the camp explained their involvement in the offences that led to their admission into Operation Safe Corridor.

The media tour of the facility is in preparation for the graduation ceremony of over 700 clients who have been deradicalised, rehabilitated, and are ready to be reintegrated into their communities.
