Fire guts petrol station in Oyo, destroys vehicle
A fire outbreak on Monday evening destroyed the Abu Badmus Petrol Station located in the Ago-Omoluabi community along Okerete Road in the Saki West Local Government Area of Oyo State.
According to eyewitnesses who spoke to Very Nigerian, the incident occurred around 4:50 p.m. and also damaged a van parked nearby. Fortunately, no casualties were recorded.
As of press time, the exact cause of the fire remained unknown.
Confirming the incident on Tuesday in Ibadan, the state capital, the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Moroof Akinwande, urged residents to remain vigilant and adopt preventive safety measures to avoid similar occurrences.
He emphasized the importance of public awareness and prompt response to fire emergencies, noting that negligence often contributes to such incidents.
He said, “This agency received the distress call on Monday at exactly 17:03hrs at Saki Fire Station through a running caller and Tajudeen Olaore, to a filling station on fire at the above address
“Fire Officer led by CFS Ayegbokiki promptly mobilised and responded to the scene of the incident. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the filling station was engulfed in serious flames and smoke.
“Our officers quickly swung into action and curtailed the fire from spreading to the nearby buildings and properties. The firefighting operation was carried out successfully, and no casualty was recorded. The fire affected the Petrol station and one pickup van.
“Let me again emphasise the importance of having extinguishers in our respective buildings, particularly the filling stations where fire risk is very high, to prevent fire incidents at the incident stage.”
He, therefore, appreciated the Nigerian Police, Saki Divisional Command, for providing security cover during the operation.
Very Nigerian recalls that another fire incident occurred in Edo State on Saturday when a petrol tanker fell and caught fire at the Ogheghe Junction along Sapele Road due to a bad portion of the road
