Fire razes church, fuel station in Oyo
Properties valued at several millions of naira have been destroyed following two separate fire outbreaks that affected a church and a petroleum station in Oyo State.
Very Nigerian gathered that the church was gutted by fire on Thursday, while the petroleum station was razed by flames on Wednesday.
A correspondent reports that the affected church is located in Ilora.
It was learnt that the fire outbreak at the church was caused by an electrical fault, as appliances in the building reportedly sparked and ignited the blaze.
Some properties were damaged in the incident, while no life was lost.
The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident.
He said, “Upon arrival, the church was fully alight and smoke-logged. The fire crew quickly swung into action, and the fire was prevented from spreading to nearby buildings and properties. No casualty was recorded.”
Very Nigerian also gathered that the petroleum station is located along the Ogbomoso/Ilorin old road.
Properties worth millions of naira were destroyed during the incident.
Akinwande also confirmed the petroleum station fire.
He said, “Upon arrival, we met a shattered workshop, cracked walls, damaged POP ceiling, and destroyed roofing sheets.
“Nobody was affected by the explosion, and a post-incident investigation is ongoing to ascertain the root cause of the incident.”
