Fresh trouble for Mark-led ADC as Nafiu Gombe faction claims upload of candidates to INEC portal
A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by its National Chairman, Nafiu Bala Gombe, says it has uploaded the credentials of its presidential, vice-presidential and National Assembly candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Gombe announced the development but did not disclose the identities of the candidates submitted by his faction.
According to him, the move demonstrates the faction’s commitment to protecting the interests of the party’s founding and legacy members.
“The African Democratic Congress (ADC), under my leadership, has successfully completed the upload of our Presidential, Vice-Presidential and National Assembly candidates on the INEC portal for the 2027 General Elections,” he said.
He added that the party remains committed to presenting credible, competent and people-oriented candidates capable of providing purposeful leadership and promoting good governance.
The announcement comes days after another ADC faction led by former Senate President David Mark also claimed it had uploaded the names of its presidential candidate and other candidates for the 2027 elections on the INEC portal, highlighting the ongoing leadership dispute within the party.
Meanwhile, former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has urged politicians who are committed to public service to join the ADC.
Tambuwal made the call while receiving the immediate past Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area, Isa Salihu Kalenjeni, into the party after his resignation from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Tambuwal, politicians motivated by the interests of the people rather than personal gain should have the courage to leave their parties and align with the ADC.
Note: The ADC is currently experiencing a leadership dispute, with rival factions making competing claims.
The legal status of candidate submissions and party leadership will ultimately depend on decisions by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and, where applicable, the courts.
