Hyacinth Alia has pledged to deliver at least 620,000 votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election, doubling the 310,468 votes the President secured in Benue State during the 2023 presidential poll.

Alia made the declaration on Monday while speaking to journalists after a meeting with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja alongside former Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam.

The governor said Suswam’s alignment with the All Progressives Congress (APC) would further strengthen the party’s chances in the state.

> “I am very confident that as I won the election, even the first time, we are going to double the numbers for him. APC will continue to remain just one hold, one threshold, and we are going to make it good for him and for the entire Benue State as well,” Alia said.

Tinubu won Benue in the 2023 presidential election with 310,468 votes, narrowly defeating Peter Obi, who polled 308,372 votes, a margin of 2,096 votes.

Alia explained that the meeting with the President focused on the security situation in Benue, the condition of internally displaced persons (IDPs), the ongoing farming season, and political developments following the APC primaries.

He said security had improved compared to previous months but noted that concerns remained over the safe return of displaced persons to their communities.

The governor also informed the President about Suswam’s formal defection to the APC, describing the former governor as a prominent political figure whose entry into the party required direct engagement with the President.

While acknowledging disagreements within the Benue APC after the party primaries, Alia expressed confidence that the aggrieved members would eventually reconcile.

He added that the visit also gave him the opportunity to thank Tinubu for supporting Benue State’s 50th anniversary celebrations, during which several projects, including a fruit concentrate factory, a beer factory, a fruit juice factory, and urban renewal road projects, were commissioned or unveiled.
