Gov Muftwang finalizes move to dump PDP for APC,, align Plateau with Tinubu’s agenda
Governor Caleb Muftwang of Plateau State is set to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has reported.
The governor’s Political Adviser, Mr Istifanus Nwansat, confirmed the development on Monday in an interview with Very Nigerian in Abuja, citing the lingering crisis within the PDP as the major reason behind the move.
According to Nwansat, Muftwang’s decision was reached after careful assessment of the prevailing political realities, noting that remaining in the PDP now carries significant political risks.
He said the planned defection would also align Plateau State more closely with President Bola Tinubu’s political direction and governance agenda.
“The crisis in the PDP has made it an unrealistic platform for serious political engagement,” Nwansat said.
“From our assessment of all available options, we have concluded that the safest decision with the least risk factor is to move into the APC. That is why the governor is moving into the APC.”
He added that Muftwang believes it is in the best interest of Plateau people to align with the federal government.
“Even though we are PDP members, we appreciate and recognise the efforts of Mr President in putting things right. As a leader, the governor believes it is reasonable to move his people in that direction,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Senator representing Ondo Central Senatorial District, Adeniyi Adegbonmire, has declared that there is no credible opposition or political coalition capable of defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
Speaking during the Adegbonmire Renewed Hope Mega Empowerment Programme in Ondo Central, the senator said the APC and its supporters were already mobilising to secure Tinubu’s re-election.
“Where is the opposition?” Adegbonmire asked. “I don’t know of any serious one. The so-called coalition — what is their name? Who is in the ADC? Let’s be serious.”
He added that Tinubu is already preparing for governance beyond 2027, stressing that party supporters must ensure Nigerians feel the impact of the administration.
The empowerment programme, which benefited about 900 residents of the senatorial district, was described by the senator as part of efforts to consolidate support for both the President and the APC ahead of the next election cycle.
