Gov Namadi names Garba Mohammed as JSIEC Secretary

Umar Namadi has approved the appointment of Abubakar Garba Mohammed as the Secretary of the Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission (JSIEC).

The appointment was disclosed in a statement issued by the Secretary to the Government of the state, Bala Ibrahim.

According to the statement, the SSG said the governor approved the appointment based on merit, integrity and competence.

He expressed confidence that the new secretary would make meaningful contributions toward strengthening the electoral process in the state.

Abubakar Garba Mohammed was born on February 21, 1960, in Hadejia Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

He holds a Master’s degree in Banking and Finance from Bayero University, Kano, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Election Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

He began his career as a classroom teacher under the Science and Technical Schools Board between 1984 and 1989 before joining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Garba Mohammed served in various capacities at INEC from 1989 until his retirement in 2020, rising to the position of Director General of Administration and Procurement at the INEC Katsina State office.

During his career, he participated in overseeing elections across several local government areas and also served as an international election monitor during the Republic of Ghana’s general election.

The appointment takes immediate effect.
