Gunfire, explosions reported near Niamey Airport in Niger
The cause of the blasts remains unknown.
Gunshots and loud explosions of unknown origin were reported late Wednesday night near Niamey International Airport, raising concerns over a possible security incident.
The events were first disclosed on Thursday by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, who cited information from local sources.
According to the reports, the airport vicinity experienced heavy detonations and sustained gunfire before calm reportedly returned.
The identity of the attackers remains unknown, and no official casualty figures have been released.
Security agencies in Niger have yet to issue a detailed statement on the incident, while investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
