Gunmen ambush, kill 28-year-old man in Plateau
A 28-year-old man, identified as James Iliya, has reportedly been killed in a suspected ambush along the Barkin Ladi–Kassa road in Plateau State.
The incident occurred on Monday as the victim was said to be returning home when he encountered armed attackers.
A resident of the community, Regan Silas, alleged that the assailants ambushed Iliya and fatally attacked him, leaving his body at the scene.
Confirming the incident, Rwang Tenglong, spokesman of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, told our correspondent that the attack has further heightened tension among residents of the area.
“The young man was on his way home when he was attacked. This has thrown the community into fear because this road has become very dangerous,” he said.
The killing has heightened fresh concerns over insecurity in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area and its environs, where recurring incidents of violence have been recorded in recent times, he added.
Efforts to reach the spokesman of the Plateau police command for more details was unsuccessful as at the time of sending this report.
