Gunmen kill three vigilantes in Plateau midnight attack

Three members of a local vigilante group have been killed after gunmen attacked a community security post in Gwa Rim, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The attack reportedly occurred around 2am on Wednesday when the gunmen opened fire on the vigilantes who were on duty at the guard post.

A resident of Riyom, Damba Dang, who confirmed the incident, said the attackers struck while residents were asleep.

According to him, the gunmen killed three of the local security guards during the attack.

Dang lamented the renewed attacks on communities in the area, saying residents were becoming increasingly worried over their safety.

He said the killing of the vigilantes was particularly disturbing because they were only providing security for their community and helping to protect residents against attacks.

He appealed to security agencies to urgently strengthen security around Gwa Rim and other vulnerable communities in Riyom to prevent further attacks.

Dang also urged security operatives to investigate the incident, track down the perpetrators and ensure that those responsible for the killings are brought to justice.
